43rd Sanremo Round Table on “New Dimensions and Challenges of Urban Warfare”- Registration is open

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law, the Institute, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, is pleased to invite you to the 43rd Sanremo Round Table on “New Dimensions and Challenges of Urban Warfare”, to be held online on the Institute’s learning platform from Wednesday 9th September 2020.

The Sanremo Round Table webinar series will start on Wednesday 9th September at 15.00 (3 pm) CET with the opening session streamlined live from the Humanitarium – the ICRC centre for exchange and debate on humanitarian law, policy and action – in Geneva. 

The opening session will include, in its first part, a cross interview on the subject with Edoardo Greppi, President of the IIHL, and Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President of the ICRC, followed by the introductory remarks by Félix Baumann, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva. 

The second part of the opening session will celbrate the 50th anniversary of the Sanremo Institute with the presentation of the Institute’s main achievements and its challenges ahead by  Fausto Pocar, Honorary President of the IIHL, and Gian Lorenzo Cornado, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva.  

The opening session will be followed by a thematic panel on “The evolution of urban warfare over the past 50 years and its impact on civilians“.
