The Institute hosted the firts lecture of its series “Sanremo Lectures on International Humanitarian Law”, held on the 30th November. The topic addressed the question:

“Why is international humanitarian law respected or violated? An open agenda”

Launched on the occasion of the 50th  anniversary of the Institute, the webinar series intends to contribute to the Institute’s overall mission of promoting and disseminating international humanitarian law. Lectures will be organised periodically with the contribution of authoritative and world-renowned scholars and experts in the field of IHL.

The very first Sanremo Lecture on IHL was held by Professor Michael Bothe, Emeritus Professor of Public Law at the J.W. Goethe University, Frankfurt/Main and Member of the Institute. Prof. Bothe has always been a very cooperative Member and friend of the Institute, participating in many Sanremo Round Tables and, two years ago, he was awarded the Institute’s “Prize for the Promotion, Dissemination and Teaching of IHL”.
